Bio

Graduated in Biochemistry (Universidad Católica Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, Paraguay, 2015) and Master’s in Advanced Microbiology from the University of Barcelona (2018). Currently finishing her doctoral thesis on the degradation of organochlorine contaminants in groundwater by anaerobic bacteria, for which she has enjoyed a grant from the ¨Personal Investigador Predoctoral en Formació¨ (PIF, UAB). She has done a predoctoral research stay in the group of Dr. Lorenz Adrian at the Helmholtz-Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) in Leipzig, Germany (2021).

Current research interests

  • Assessment of the degradation potential of groundwater contaminated with chlorinated compounds.
  • Cultivation and enrichment of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria for contaminant degradation.
  • Study of the metabolism of anaerobic bacteria degrading chlorinated compounds.
  • Investigation of key enzymes for the degradation of chlorinated contaminants.
